Responding to Water Damage in Your Elk Grove Woodwork Shop
SERVPRO Technicians are Experienced When It Comes to Handling Commercial Water Damage Disasters
For water repair companies like SERVPRO, it is surprisingly common to deal with burst hot water tanks. Many of these units serve small commercial complexes, so they tend to be monitored less closely than the boilers and water systems in residential properties. The problem with this is that, without the right maintenance, water tanks are prone to leaks.
The average size (forty gallons) tank can cause significant commercial water damage in Elk Grove businesses. In a small woodwork shop, for example, you could expect around 200 gallons of liquid to spill out in the event of a rupture. The good news is that, in a steel frame and low porosity concrete building, the water absorbs at a very slow rate or not at all.
Responding to the Damage
The majority of woodwork shops have a drain in the center of the floor which can be used to hose the workspace down. It is very useful because it means that a lot of the water gets directed out of the building. Around 1/3 of the liquid is likely to remain, and much of this is soaked up if you have sawdust covered floors.
Surface Water Mopping
So, for SERVPRO, it is a matter of removing the wet sawdust and taking as much water with it as possible. Broadhead mops and squeegees are used to push the material into the center of the shop, where it gets collected and extracted. After this, we use weighted compression tools and hard floor squeegees to soak up the rest of the liquid. The use of pump extractors is unlikely in this scenario because the volume of standing water is minimal.
Applied Structural Drying
Usually, woodwork shops are uniform in shape. They can be quite large, but they do not have many deep cavities or crevices. It makes it easier for SERVPRO to regulate the humidity using air movers and dehumidifiers. For a 1,000 square foot shop, two air movers are set up for rapid surface drying. They get combined with a small dehumidifier (working at around 14 pints per day). As the shop is only moderately wet at this point, a medium powered unit should be sufficient.
